Sedation Dentistry

SEDATION DENTISTRY:
Sedation DentistrySedation Dentistry is a common technique used to help address fear when visiting the dentist. Sedation helps to create a more comfortable experience and allow people to have treatment completed that would otherwise be avoided. Sedation involves the use of medication and is offered in two basic types:

  • Oral Sedation – You will be prescribed a pill that is easy to swallow and safe.  You will be asked to arrive approximately 45 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment, at which time you will be given the prescribed pill. We might also prescribe you a pill to take the night before your dental appointment to help you relax and ensure you have a good nights sleep. After your dental appointment you will need to be escorted home.

  • Nitrous Oxide – You will breathe in a combination of nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) and oxygen through a mask that is placed over your nose. It has no side effects and leaves your system immediately after so you can leave the office on your own. Nitrous Oxide can also be used in combination with Oral Sedation (above) but if you choose this option you will need to be escorted home.
